Girlie is enjoying her new home. She's also starting to enjoy her new name - we nicknamed her "Goldiehound" for a bit, and after trying several dozen other names we're finding she's more interested in that one than any of the others. She likes the house, I've already taken her to work where everyone immediately began petting her and fawning over her, and she's definitely enjoyed the new evening habit of a long walk a while after dinner. As for us, we're completely delighted. She's been loving and fun and incredibly well-behaved - this last one being a bit of a surprise, because Goldie looks so much like our old dog Marauder who was a world-class troublemaker. We put up a few pictures of Goldie to let family and friends know about her, and you can have a look at them too: http://flyingmoose.org/goldie/goldiehound.htm She is an older female (my guess is 7
or 8), and she appears to be pure bred Basset Hound. I cannot emphasize
enough how sweet she is! She runs as fast as her little legs will carry
her to meet me when I get home each day and her tail is constantly
wagging. She gets along really well with my cat, but unfortunately she has
had a few run-ins with my Springer Spaniel. She becomes agitated when he
bothers her will sleeping (can't say that I blame her) and I'm afraid he
may hurt her fragile back in his efforts to play. However, I feel
confident that she would get along quite well with an older or more mild
mannered dog. I do not have any children so I don't know if she is
compatible with kids, but she has tried to run across the street to greet
the neighborhood children several times so my best guess is that she likes
children as well. Also, as far as I can tell she doesn't have any bad
manners. I am able to leave my home for a few hours, giving her the run of
the place and she just sleeps while I am gone. Ideally, I would love to
see her go to an older person or couple who are around nearly all day, but
I'm sure she would adapt fairly well to pretty much any home she was
placed in.
