Max  Basset Hound

Max has found his forever home. Max likes his Doffer name, so they have changed his name back to Doffer. Doffer has wrapped Kelsee and her family in with his wonderful basset personality. He loves to play, has figured out how to sneak up between them in bed, and totally charm them with his silly looks. He loves their niece, especially when she has peanut butter sandwiches. They have also discovered that bassets counter surf, and nothing is safe unless it's on the very back of the counter. Doffer is slowly gaining weigh. Doffer, is one lucky boy, no more homes that don't want him, or SHS who almost killed him, he's a lucky boy..

Max, previously name Doffer was an owner turn in to the Spokane Humane Society on 2 Feb 05 a healthy happy 2 year old basset. Max had someone that wanted to adopt him, so he was scheduled for neuter on 11 Feb 05. On 7 Feb the prospective owner call me concerned about him and asked if Basset Rescue would not please evaluate him. I went to SHS and he was very lethargic and very thin. I went to, the Shelter Mgr and Kennel Supv and offered to take him, and get him back in shape for his surgery on the 11th and subsequent adoption. I was told it WAS NOT THEIR POLICY. The morning of the 11th, the vet at SHS called the prospective owner and told him the dog needed out of the shelter NOW. He was totally dehydrated and would not make it thru surgery. The owner called me, he was worried that if he didn't take the dog, he would be put down. We agreed that he adopt the dog and I would reimburse and take care of the dog. I took him immediately to my vet, who hydrated him, clear his impacted bowels and saved his life. My vet indicated that this was clearly and case of SHS policy versus proper animal care. Max is gaining some weight and strength and will be neutered on the 22nd. I bless the excellent shelters who work with rescue groups, but other shelters.......
